Can your thoughts really affect your weight? Do thoughts happen to you or do you control what you think? If you're someone whose mind is like a bad neighborhood—a dangerous place to visit, especially at night, this week's tip is for you.
In 1952, Norman Vincent Peale wrote a ground-breaking book called The Power of Positive Thinking. He is also the person credited with the quote "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade." I wonder what he would say about emotional eating. There is a place, and I'm sure you've been there, where you can give in to thoughts that say, "Why bother eating the right things." But at that moment you also have the choice to talk back to that voice and say, "I am worth eating right." The same thing applies to your thoughts. You can feed your negative thoughts or your positive thoughts. It has been said that whatever you put your focus on gets bigger. Where do you want to put your focus? The blessings in your life or the struggles? Mr. Peale also said, "The tests of life are not meant to break you, but to make you." I get the sense that he would've thought that your struggles with food could help you become the empowered, confident person you want to be. And they can. At the end of the day, record three things you did well. Tell yourself, "You're worth it." Find the silver lining whenever you can.
