We expect perfection from ourselves. We especially expect perfection when it comes to following a sensible eating plan. And when we're not perfect we come down pretty hard on ourselves. The truth, however, is that almost no one gets it perfectly right. And those that do suffer a lot of stress to get it so perfect.

This week cut yourself some slack and expect imperfection. You might give yourself the chance to do a good job even if it's not a perfect job. A job well done makes you feel satisfied. But a job well done, when you set out to do a perfect job, leaves you disappointed and feeling like a failure. Expect imperfection and expect to be more satisfied.

This is one of the more difficult practices. Practice Progress NOT Perfection. With this practice it does get easier to stop living in the black and white and learn to embrace the colors found whilst living in the grey.

Cutting myself slack in anything is not something I do. It strikes me, howeever, as I read the tip, "Expect imperfection and expect to be more satisfied," that it is not a lowering of expectations or standards. It is a matter of adopting reasonable expectations. Expectations and standards that can never be fulfilled are inherently unreasonable. It all comes down up to: Breathe. Be. Enjoy and learn and become stronger.

This is one that I struggle with a lot. I have to keep telling myself that I don't have to be perfect. I have to remind myself daily that average is good.

Yes, this is a big struggle with me. In my head, it had to be all or nothing. There's no in between - I really need to take the time to think it through and tell my self to keep plugging along.
