Actually, there is no perfect diet that is just right for Every Body. But with a bit of effort you can discover what types of food work best for you. The key is not to think of it as a weight loss "diet" in the sense that you are depriving yourself of something, but set the intention to find the "friendly foods" that you want to hang out with.

Some people do better on low-carb diets, some don't. Some people do better with more animal protein, some do better eating vegetarian. What and how much you eat are very personal. The best thing for each person is to know themselves well enough to know what eating plan is best for them.

It means trying different foods and seeing how your body responds. Which foods give you energy? Which make you crash? Then, it means picking the eating plan that works for you and that you're willing to stick to for life. There have been many arguments about what diet is the best diet. And the answer is that it's each person's job is to grant themselves the permission to find the perfect plan for them. This might take a little bit more work. It might be a little harder. But the end result will be right for you (and easier to stick to, too).

You are absolutely correct. I am constantly concocting all sorts of combinations of foods. I find this unconventional approach works best for me. Since my health is my primary consideration, I am thankful that I am able to be so creative in the kitchen. Iris

I can't agree with this more. Finally, after reading Shrink Yourself, I have learned it is NOT ABOUT THE FOOD. Different things work for different people, even at different times. The main thing is the WHY? of eating, overeating, not eating, etc....achieving a better relationship with food. I celelbrated my year anniversary of going back on a 'diet'. Last year at this time I weighed 34 more pounds than today. But the main thing I have learned during this year was to Shrink Myself. Any diet will work. But this program is the key to change. Thank you.

Diets, all my life from age 17 on, I've either been on or off a diet. I guess I am an all or nothing kind of person. But it hasn't worked as I still am overweight, maybe not to the extent I once was, but still too much for my health. I could never follow WW as it was too restrictive, Atkins was wonderful and I adhered to it to a T, but after the initial 50 lbs. I stayed the same for over 9 months, lost motivation and finally gained back 30 of those pounds. Once again my weight has slowly moved up the scale almost touching the 200 lbs. line on the scale. I feel that I don't have the will power to be so strict on Atkins again, but don't know how to do it any other way all or nothing At 64 do you think I'm too old to find the right diet for me? Sandy

Sandy, If you are up to it, you can discover that no diet is necessary. Have you heard of non-dieting? What normal weight people do? The ones who naturally eat without restrictions? Using the tools of Shrink Yourself you can discover the difference between true hunger and phantom hunger. When you learn that you can eat any foods/meals from hunger to satisfied. True hunger usually doesn't ask for sweets/treats. It usually wants real food and it might ask for a tiny sweet to end the meal. Even just one chocolate chip. And yes, a fast food hamburger, fries and a small milkshake is real food. It becomes junk food, just like steak and salad when you over eat. Eating beyond true physical satisfaction is feeding phantom hunger. You can learn to eat portions that your body needs and can use...just by listening to your body...paying attention while you eat. And you can also learn to leave food on your plate and throw it out. If you don't have the book yet, get it. And/or do the online program if you think you need personalized help I am assuming the online program also provides when you need it.

To Sandy, The best thing to do is to keep it simple, and certainly it's never too late. Eat mostly plant-foods veggies, fruit Eat mostly minimally processed sorry, hamburger, fries, milkshake is not real food! Eat whole foods , whole grains, nuts. For animal protein, stick to "wild" fish , not farmed as a primary source. Learn to enjoy cooking and eating simply. Eat with friends and family. Eat slowly Drink plenty of water Get some sunshine Stay away from high sugar foods, and liquid sugar empty calories Sugar is highly addictive, trust me I know. Stay away from it if you know you can't have just "one". Just my 2cents.

I would just like to say, that like Sandy I have been losing and gaining weight since my teens-- been on most diets and yo-yo'd. Until I found the source of the internal void and owning my pattern of sabotage, nothing changed. I intellectually know what to eat. Most dieters are the most educated about food! It has been a long journey to find answers. Now, since really working on my inner damage and doing a lot of healing, I want my outsides to reflect my insides. My past was about *fixing* my weight outsides so that my self-loathing would disappear...for me it didn't work. I would lose then my self-loathing would correct my hard work and I would gain the weight back and more. Currently I am reading about physical body types and what foods make them work well. Ironically much of the information I knew on some innate level. Keep listening and searching for answers Sandy, your tenacity and curiosity and intuition will help. Ask questions! :
