If you haven't reached your goal weight, you might be under the false assumption that you're not progressing. To continue to feel hopeful and tenacious it's important to know what progress actually looks like so you're taking a fair assessment of how you're doing.

Many overeaters, bingers, and emotional eaters use the excuse 'If I can't get things perfect I might as well give up or not try at all'. This week's tip is to keep going even if you're not getting things perfectly. One of our members shared that she knows she's progressing because she was eating dessert twice a day and now she's eating dessert twice a week. That's progress. Another member said she used to binge once a week and now she's binging once a month. That's progress. And yet another member shared how he went to his local coffee shop for a latte and a pastry everyday during his afternoon lull at work. Now, he's just having the latte without the pastry. That's progress. Many overeaters operate in an automatic way. They report not even realizing when they're eating. So much of it is automatic. Any progress indicates that you're keeping yourself aware more of the time. When you're aware you have the power to be the one in charge of your actions and choices. You don't need to be perfect, you just need to progress. Learn the notice the ways that you are personally progressing.

Thank you so much for today's comments about progress, not perfection. Over the past 10 years I have been working through many issues in my life that have actually been key to dealing with my weight/food issues. Over the last two years specifically, I have seen REAL progress with my weight loss but just recently I have felt really stuck at the place I've been for a while. There is that feeling of "notting getting it right" and almost "failure" and today's comments just reminded me that I HAVE made real progress and it encouraged me to keep on going and not to give up. Thank you.

Thank you so much for reminding it is the "small steps" we take each day. I used to walk past a bakery and go in automatically. Now I just walk past. It took me several weeks to overcome this, but now I feel much more empowered, and not powerless!!

I can relate emotional eating right back to when I was a toddler ~ it's taken me 45 years to work a lot of things out, but i feel as if i'm achieving some of the small goals that many of your other members are experiencing. My biggest to date would be that I have stopped cramming sugar or sugary items I have searched for in the cupboards ~ my worst was cooking chocolate ~ I would sneak a few squares in when there was nothing else, just to satisfy a craving ~ I never do that now, that's progress for me! Thank you for your info on emotional eating.

THANK YOU! That's a great reminder. I've been working at this for what seems like forever. When I reflect on where I've been and the activities I'm currently doing, I AM making progress!
